Aida is sold by count (stitches per inch) and in pre-cut pieces or by the yard. Pick the count first — it sets the size of your design — then buy a piece at least 3 inches bigger than the design on every side.

Divide the number of stitches by the fabric count. 150 stitches on 14 count Aida is 150 ÷ 14 ≈ 10.7 inches (27 cm); on 18 count it is about 8.3 inches.
Add about 3 inches to every side of the finished size for framing and hooping. A 10.7-inch design needs fabric at least 16.7 inches wide.
One DMC skein covers roughly 1,600 full stitches on 14 count with two strands. Divide each color’s stitch count by that, add 10% and round up.
The count is how many stitches fit in one inch. Higher counts mean smaller stitches: 11 count is big and easy to see, 18 count is fine and detailed.
Most stitchers manage 100–300 full stitches an hour. A 112 × 140 design (15,680 stitches) takes about 78 hours at 200 per hour.
