How to use the perler bead pattern maker

To make a Perler bead pattern from a picture, upload it, choose how many 29 × 29 boards it should fill, pick Perler, Hama or Artkal colors and print the board pages. Each page shows one pegboard with its bead colors, so you can put the printout under a clear board and place beads on top.

  1. 1

    Upload a picture

Simple shapes with clear edges work best: animals, fruit, flowers, logos you own.

  2. 2

    Choose the boards

    1 board (29 × 29) for a coaster, 2 × 2 boards for a wall piece, 3 × 3 for a big one.

  3. 3

    Pick your bead brand

Colors are matched to the closest Perler, Hama or Artkal bead using CIEDE2000.

  4. 4

    Print and place

Print the board pages at 100% scale, slide them under clear pegboards and follow the colors.

Split into 29×29 boards, automatically

A large square Perler pegboard holds 29 × 29 midi beads, about 14.5 cm (5.7 in) across. The pattern is cut into boards labelled A1, B1, A2 and so on, with the bead count for every board, so you can work one board at a time.

Turn on “Mirror for ironing” to print the reversed version: you iron the back first, so a mirrored chart keeps text and asymmetric designs the right way round.

Perler, Hama or Artkal: pick your bead colors

Each brand has its own palette — 103 Perler, 92 Hama Midi and 199 Artkal S colors are built in. Switch brands at any time and the whole pattern is re-matched to beads you can actually buy.

Ironing tips for a flat finish

Iron on a medium setting through ironing paper in slow circles for 10–20 seconds, check that the beads have fused, then place a heavy book on the piece while it cools so it stays flat.

Perler bead designs to start with

Easy perler bead patterns use one board and 6–10 colors: fruit, mushrooms, hearts, little animals and initials. Upload a simple picture with a plain background and the board map shows exactly where every bead goes.

Fuse bead patterns work the same for every brand, so a design made with Perler colors can be switched to Hama or Artkal in one click.

Questions people ask

Q.01What size is a Perler pegboard?

A large square Perler pegboard is 29 × 29 pegs for midi (5 mm) beads, about 14.5 cm or 5.7 inches across. Our patterns split automatically into boards of that size.

Q.02How many beads do I need for my pattern?

Every color in the key lists its exact bead count plus 5% spare. A full 29 × 29 board uses 841 beads; a 2 × 2 design uses 3,364.

Q.03Can I use Hama or Artkal beads instead of Perler?

Yes. Pick Hama Midi or Artkal S as the palette and every color is re-matched to the closest bead of that brand.

Q.04Is the Perler pattern maker free?

Yes. Making, editing and printing a single-board pattern is free. Larger multi-board PDFs are part of a paid pattern unlock.

Q.05How do I make my own perler bead design?

Upload a picture or draw on the pixel art grid, pick the number of boards and colors, then print the board pages. Simple shapes with 6–10 colors give the cleanest designs.
