How to use the diamond painting pattern maker

To make a custom diamond painting from your photo, upload it, choose the canvas size (for example 40 × 50 cm), pick square or round drills and export the chart. Every color is matched to a DMC drill code with its drill count, plus 12% spare.

  1. 1

    Upload a photo

Flowers, pets and landscapes with strong light work well; drills sparkle on dark backgrounds.

  2. 2

    Choose the canvas

    30 × 40, 40 × 50, 50 × 65 or 60 × 80 cm — the drill grid is calculated for you.

  3. 3

    Square or round drills

Square 2.5 mm drills fill edge to edge; round 2.8 mm drills are easier to place.

  4. 4

    Export the chart

A symbol chart and drill list by DMC code, ready to print or send to a canvas printer.

How many drills you need

Square drills are 2.5 mm, so a 40 × 50 cm canvas is 160 × 200 = 32,000 drills. Round drills are about 2.8 mm, roughly 25,600 for the same canvas.

Square or round drills?

For portraits choose square drills: they tile with no gaps, so faces and fur keep their detail. Round drills sparkle more and are quicker to place, but leave small gaps between drills.

Photos that work best

Pick a photo with one clear subject, good light and a simple background. Crop tight — a 40 × 50 cm canvas is only 160 drills wide, so small details disappear.

What is diamond painting?

Diamond painting is a craft where you press tiny faceted resin “drills” onto a sticky canvas printed with a symbol chart, one drill per square — like paint by numbers with sparkle. Each symbol stands for one DMC drill color.

How to do a diamond painting

  • ✕Peel back a small part of the protective film on the canvas — never the whole sheet at once.
  • ✕Pour one drill color into the tray and shake it so the drills land facet-up.
  • ✕Dip the drill pen in wax, pick up a drill and press it onto every square with that color’s symbol.
  • ✕Work in small sections, re-cover finished areas with the film, then roll the finished canvas flat under a heavy book.
